Vancouver erupts in riots as Boston wins Stanley Cup
- Boston wins the deciding game 7, 4-0 to win their first Stanley cup in almost 4 decades.
- The City of Vancouver erupted in violent riots afterwards, leading to 100 arrests and more than 150 injuries.
- The City of Boston has won 6 championships in the 4 major sports since 2004 (2 Super Bowls, 2 World Series, 1 NBA Title, and this Stanley Cup).
- No Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since 1993.
College World Series begins on Saturday
- The double elimination tournament featuring the final 8 college baseball teams is held every year in Omaha, Nebraska.
- The Virginia Cavaliers are the #1 overall seed, but narrowly escaped elimination in the most recent round by rallying from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the 9th inning against UC-Irvine.
- Last year's champion South Carolina is back for a chance to defend their title.
- The other 6 schools who made it to the World Series are Florida, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Texas, Texas A&M and California (whose baseball program was nearly dropped).
