Els comes from behind to stun in Britain
- Ernie Els was the beneficiary of a late collapse by Adam Scott to come from behind to win the 2012 British Open. Adam Scott, who had had the lead for much of the tournament, had a four stroke lead with four holes left in the tournament. Scott, who has never won a Major Tournament before, is still in search of his elusive first.
- All Scott had to do was shoot three over par over the last four holes of the tournament. He had a 7-foot putt on 18 to force a playoff with Els. However, he pulled the putt to the left and knew he had lost the tournament.
- Els, who has won three major tournaments in the past, is one of the most liked players on the PGA tour. He has worked hard to spread Golf to his home continent of Africa, and to raise awareness for Autism (after his son was diagnosed). He had been having a tough year after two near misses in tournaments, but a collapse by Scott was just what Els needed to get off the hump in 2012.
Olympics starting Friday: Preview Part 1 – Past Champions
- Two weeks ago we discussed the US Men’s Dream team, the returning gold medal squad from the 2008 Summer Olympics. Today we will discuss two of the other big stars from the 2008 Olympics and how they are factoring into the 2012 summer Olympics.
- Beijing was undoubtedly won by Michael Phelps whose 8 gold medals was a record for any single Olympics. After the Olympics ended, Phelps faced a bit of an existential crisis. After getting in a little trouble with the law, Phelps decided to compete in London and his outlook changed. Phelps is back and competing in 7 races in London, needing only three medals to break the Olympic record for career medals. Phelps countryman, Ryan Lochte is expected to be his biggest competition this time through.
- The second biggest name to come out of Beijing was that of Usain Bolt. The Jamaican born sprinter blew away his competition to win the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 4x100 meter dash to win three gold medals. He has competed regularly since then and is one of the favorites to win in England. Bolts countryman Yohan Blake is expected to be his biggest competition this time through.
