Rice Out at Rutgers
- A day after an ESPN video of his practices surfaced, Rutgers University fired head basketball coach Mike Rice. This is after a 3-game suspension earlier in the season for his actions. Rutgers Athletic Director Tim Pernetti has come under fire and is no longer the AD at Rutgers due to this kerfuffle.
- The video showed Rice punching, grabbing, kicking, and throwing balls at his players during practice. In addition to the physical violence Rice cursed and used homophobic slurs against his players.
- Two players have come out in Rice's defense saying that the video was not the whole picture. He was still fired.
- Auburn university is the latest major university to become embroiled in a major scandal, as they apparently changed players grades, gave cash to potential NFL draft picks so they would return for another season, and violated NCAA recruiting rules under former coach Gene Chizik. It didn't help apparently as Chizik was fired this past season after going winless in the SEC but Auburn faces possible punishment nonetheless.
- To the surprise of no one, Chizik denied the allegations, saying that they are "long on accusation and inference, but short on facts and logic."
- Additionally, Auburn had a dozen players fail drug tests for "spice" which is a synthetic drug similar to marijuana. While the team didn't test for it until after they won the 2010 National Championship, the team nonetheless decided to conceal the results. Star RB Michael Dyer was among those who tested positive as was freshman TE Dakota Moseley who failed seven consecutive tests but was never punished for it.
